The Skaneateles Ski Club, Inc. was founded in 1959 by a group of winter sports enthusiasts.  This group purchased, cleared and constructed a rope tow consisting of the 26 acres of land on which the hill still stands.  That winter 126 families were skiing.  In 1960, the Chalet was built by mostly volunteer labor.  Windows were made from TV screens and lighting was installed.

The Hill instituted its first Ski Patrol in 1961 with 15 members taking the standard and advanced First Aid Course.  Progress continued through the hard work of its members as they erected a new rope tow, installed toilets in the Chalet and dug drainage.  More land was purchased in 1964, bringing the total acreage to 33 and a t-bar was installed.  Membership reached 165 families.    The roadway and parking lot were improved and volunteers built the T-bar building.  In 1967, a new Spryte was purchased.  In 1969, the 10th anniversary of the opening celebrated 190 families.

Today, the Hill is operating as a 501(C)(3) organization.
